This one-day course has been developed in accordance with the UNICEF/WHO (2009) Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) standards. The theoretical component covers BFHI training of doctors, midwives, nurses and other healthcare workers involved in the care of pregnant women, mothers and their newborn infants.

On completion of the course, you should be able to:
Apply the theory and skills to implement the ten steps of breastfeeding.
Educate and support breastfeeding mothers and their babies towards successful breastfeeding, by promoting exclusive breastfeeding as the optimum.
Recognise and manage risk factors, conditions and complications in breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
